‘Be My Baby’ is a delectably melodic indie pop record. It’s innately pleasurable, carrying with it a warmth and sensitivity that invariably leaves the listener feeling some sort of deep seated happiness creep in even on the darkest of days. Taylor’s swooning vocal performance alongside the mesh of production that wholly enraptures you makes for the perfect aesthetic for a modern indie pop record. Combing modern elements in the production style alongside gorgeous vocal harmonies and melodic elements that are delicate but vibrant, it’s serenading to another level altogether.
The chorus feels like the ultimate catharsis on a rough summer day. Taylor, an up and coming Australian artist, perfectly understands how to combine the poignancy and lyrical imagination of a wondrous folk record with the vibrancy and optimism of a pop tune. I can’t quite get it out of my head, nor do I really want to. A light spark on a dark day. Warmth amidst freezing cold.
