“Infinite Light” thrives off its bounciness, its spirit, and a certain delectable quirkiness that has your mood lifted from the word go. With a sensibility that immediately had me harkening back to the production styles and the weirdness of a “Talking Heads” record, Major Kami piqued my attention in quick style. Taking a rather heavy topic, that of our willingness to stick the heads of our deities on the dashboards of our cars in the wake of religion being used to suppress all individuality, the song doesn’t trade that rather morose topic for a melody to match. In contrast, it’s defiantly upbeat, light, and joyful with its sonic palette.
It’s got a chorus that has you singing along in no time. There’s such an innate pleasure to this piece, a joy that’s impossible to let go of. Major Kami rekindles a sense of joy and character to an electro-pop sound that feels far gone on this record.
