Re-inventing a classic that’s timeless beyond even the normal conception of what it means to be timeless, Marisol La Brava & A Flor de Piel’s rendition of “La Bamba” is fresh and imaginative while staying true to the ever so uplifting nature of the original. With a much more smooth and supple progression, they build it into an relaxed indie pop tune from the otherwise exceptionally high energy original composition. Yet, at no point do they lose sight of what makes this tune the classic that it is. After the first chorus, the strings pick up and the energy starts to jump into next gear.
I don’t think I’ve met a single person who has failed to sing along or enjoy the original. This version offers such a unique spin to it, a more atmospheric, moody, and an almost r&b infused version. It’s electrifyingly distinctive, a mellifluous rendition that’s still incredibly fun, joyful, and a blast for any and all listeners.
