‘Running Down the Dream’ is my favourite style of folk rock. Driven with a powerful forward moving acoustic strumming that builds with the group’s own message of mellow and peaceful attitudes. There’s an autobiographical attitude to the songs that Midnight Run pens, telling their own world view through the experiences they’ve had. A song that was inspired from long nights over years at the pub, it’s got that sing along and jovial energy that stems from that community environment. ‘I don’t feel like fighting’ is the central ethos, a message that to me signals a letting go of all anger and negativity, opting instead for a live and let be attitude.
It’s a song that’s a clarion call for a chilled life, a pure and enjoyable nostalgia inducing track that still leaves you singing along and thinking of living life as it comes. Go with the flow, and move with groove. It’s jovial to a fault and entertaining throughout.
