Neverless – Neverless

On their self-titled introduction, Neverless come through with a fury, a vengeance, and a pulsating drive that few can match. The spirited and frenzied hard rock record has a flavour to it that’s just energetic as hell. With a punk and alternative spin and flair to it, they feel so unhinged yet so driven and clear in their direction. From the absolutely breathtakingly high energy opener that is “Stomp”, Neverless don’t relent one bit.

As you flow into “Bad Company’, the energy doesn’t seem to take a dip one bit. Instead, it feels even more spirited and focused. “Time flies so fast, what lives won’t last”. A lyric so curiously mundane but still ragingly resonant, well to me at least. I find myself so enamoured and obsessed by the sheer power and fury of “Nevertheless”. There’s a fervour to this record, one that becomes made strikingly and blazingly obvious when you hit the final note of “Bad Company” as they utter that title with a fury that’s electric.

The record then oscillates into an almost emo/alternative rock approach on “Red Light”, perhaps my favourite record on the album as a whole. There’s something immensely raucous about this piece, something so unfiltered and unhinged. It reminds me of the chaos and unbridled rage of a My Chemical Romance, but with less whining and more innate drive and fury.

As far as punk rock records go, from back to front few find their ability to blend melody with rock while not diluting the final product into something too poppy one bit. Nevertheless are a name to watch out for, they’re bringing back sounds that a lot of us treasured but in a way that’s fresh, contemporary, and imaginative as hell. This is one album a rock lover should not skip one bit.
