An incredibly vulnerable and personal tune, Ollie Twohill’s stirring and powerful indie rock opus “Washed Away” draws inspiration from events that were catastrophic. The song was written in response to the catastrophic floods of 2022 that impacted the songwriter’s hometown of Murwillumbah and the rest of the country over time. There’s a clear emotional core to the song that comes out in droves as you hear Twohill’s own pained yet stirring vocal performance. The stories of those affected by the events, from losing their possessions to their entire livelihood and homes, the stories of the natural disaster propelled and inspired Twohill to put pen to paper on “Washed Away”.
It’s a truly rousing song, the kind of electric and powerfully crashing arrangement that has you wholly inspired and defiant against all the odds while taking in the sheer gravity of the situation at the same time. This is rock and roll with purpose, poise, and power.
