Opening with a riff that immediately draws your notice, ‘The Roof Falls In’ feels like a song you’ve already encountered multiple times in the past. I don’t meant o say that in a dismissive way in that the song feels derivative, but purely that the sheer innovation and catchiness of the initial melody is so ridiculously crisp and intriguing that you find yourself shaking your head trying to recall how you haven’t heard this before. The vocal performance and the entire melody of the verse feels very much traditional, almost like a classical folk tune being revived with a bit of modern production and sensibilities.
But perhaps what makes it most captivating is the underlying theme and ethos of the song. The Roof Falls In is about perseverance in the face of seemingly impossible odds. It’s a beacon of hope and a message to stick through even when things feel almost unreasonable. Purely acoustic and overwhelmingly Irish, it’s bundles of fun.
