My intrigue in Pedro’s music didn’t start from his music, but his story. The British indie-pop artist’s relationship to music is one that I, and many more, can easily relate to. Coming from a broken home that was once filled with happy memories, Pedro used music as an escape, a time machine into happier moments. And that concept resonates with me strongly, listening to music from my childhood invariably evokes memories from that time when life seemed less complicated and more fortuitous. So, when I stumbled on ‘Sunkissed’, I was obligated to hear how he’s creating his own memories through song.
Drawing influences from Eric Clapton to Mac Miller, Pedro’s music does fall within the realm of rock and more spacey pop music. There’s a powerful electric guitar, vocals that are silky and auspicious, and a piano section that’s serenely soothing. the song feels like a blanket of warm energy that’s steeped in a place of melancholy. It’s a track to escape to, bringing an intimacy that you find solace in. Far from a light hearted piece of pop music, Sunkissed is opulently produced to make the listener feel entirely at home and wholeheartedly in rhythm with Pedro’s call. Escapism done right.
