Bellowing chords and a heartland voice almost inherent to its energy, Podge Lane brings out a folksy country rock anthem that just screams a sense of sincerity that has you clutching at your own heart. These lyrics, “I’m not saying that I’m perfect, oh nobody is, but these one sided conversations are bringing me to tears., are simply bound to have you taking note as they play by the first time. ‘Battle Wounds’ is part tongue in cheek, but part starkly true in its central point. The song is all about a lyrical breakdown of whether sharing really is caring. Ever so often you find yourself being the shoulder to cry on for someone else but when push comes to shove, that same courtesy isn’t extended back to you. The lack of reciprocity and our inability to be just good people regardless of circumstance and experience constantly leaves us in a bind.
But, deep down, I feel the song does sort of take a positive spin on the entire debacle. Even if you may be screwed over many a time, there’s still good being done in allowing yourself to help someone else unload and recover from their own trauma. A chirpy and upbeat tune that’s got a spring in its step to it nonetheless.
