Classic rock ages like fine wine, and there is no denying that hearing anything that resembles that sound in today’s age is a precious experience. Ragdoll are a band that have brought back the magic of 80s rock through their latest release ‘Forward Emotion (Let Yourself Go)’ which transports us to an era of music that we grew up collectively appreciating. The authentic sound is no surprise since the band was formed in Northampton, UK in the late-80s by brothers Dave and Wayne Cox. Having performed at local and national levels until the mid-90s, the band separated, with members moving to different countries to pursue their solo careers. Amid the COVID pandemic, the band reunited and started creating music once again. The lineup consists of David Cox (keyboard/lead vocals), Paul Hird (bass/lead vocals), Dec Burke (guitar/backing vocals), Wayne Cox (drums/backing vocals). There is an excitement surrounding their new work that pays homage to their roots while providing a fresh sound that promises to keep us wanting more.
Inspired by legendary acts like The Beatles, Rush, Toto, and Soundgarden, among other bands, Ragdoll presents their version of free-spirited thinking in the song ‘Forward Emotion.’ In their words, it is a song about “what becomes possible when you follow your heart and truly let yourself go.” It does inspire a drive to seize the day and make the most of the moment, and that message comes across both lyrically and sonically. With raw vocals, harmonic melodies, and the classic combination of a synth and electric guitar-driven sound, ‘Forward Emotion’ is nothing short of an anthem that makes you believe that if you want something really badly, nothing should stop you from reaching that goal.
