On ‘3’, Ringo Harrison’s furious combination of old school hip-hop and rock play off each other effortlessly. The short but succinct three track EP consists of individual pieces that each work as short drops under two minutes in length. The opener, ‘Bullshit’ comes at you furiously before ‘Nectarine’ starts to work on a more mellow and low-key beat to keep you in check. Ringo Harrison’s delivery is quite consistently differentiated and unique across the EP, continually experimenting with a slew of flows, processing effects, and mixed delivery styles in equal measure.
The very DIY nature of the EP plays into its appeal. While Nectarine feels decidedly more hip-hop in nature, ‘Unstrung’ opens like a furious metal piece with a vengeance. The heavy guitar intro hits you like a truck as his vocals settle underneath like an afterthought. A well put together experimental cluster, ‘3’ is a well structured and expressive debut from an artist who has a distinctive style to himself.
