The third release from Robbie Rapids is a lick of a funk rock tune. Simply oozing buckets of soul and funk, April’s Gonna Rain is a rollercoaster of fun within the first twenty seconds. The riffs are absolutely electric, both in terms of the dexterity it would have taken to play them but also in the groovy melody they exude. The vocal performance is smooth, a bit subdued even. It’s really the instrumental arrangement that carries the weight on this song. “April’s Gonna Rain” was written about a co-worker Robbie had a crush on from years back who was engaged to be married.
The guitar melody is one of the most exciting and ecstatic moments in rock I’ve had the pleasure to dive into all year. The solo that hits after the second minute is also markedly unique and a sheer ball to experience.
