‘Sunset Valley’ feels powerful, it oozes cinematic quality almost making you think back to a montage scene in some sort of coming of age romantic drama that has you imagining that moment before a culminating or formative event. The summery rock-pop song from Essex based artist Roisin O’Hagan is a testament to her ability to craft stadium ready anthems that draw lyrical influences from the grandiose and broad based appeal of a Bruce Springsteen or Taylor Swift. Her vocals are definitively reminiscent of Swift in her more rock inspired tunes.
Set in a fictional place called Sunset Valley, the song narrates the story of a protagonist, who is mostly content with life. They seem to hang onto the person they first loved in times gone by and hope that they will find each other again one day. They wonder about where this person is now and hold on to the belief that “the best things are gonna take time”.
It has you teary eyed by the end, reminiscing about the relationships you used to have, that long lost high school lover who you feel was the right one and the only one.
