The frenetic and relentless burst of sounds that pulse onto you on the start of ‘Reckless’ has you entirely warped into Roni Rix’s lively techno experimental EP. a chaotic warp into a new dimension. The record is high energy from minute one, never once relenting on its decision to completely flood you with its nigh apocalyptic mayhem driven barrage. The sounds he’s experimenting span a diverse and almost incomprehensible array of genres and spaces. There’s a certain madness to it all, an unbridled expulsion of repressed thoughts and emotions that he’s able to elicit out of you purely through the intense and almost smashing freneticism of the whole record. For any fan of hard-hitting drum and bass, technically splendorous techno, and otherwise rambunctious rave music, this record is bound to have you flying.
A wonderful confluence of delightful experimentation, futurism, and a touch of sentimentality, the entire album is a mesmerising escapade into madness unlike most. It perhaps reaches its zenith on its final two pieces, ‘Dysphoria’ and ‘Endless Cycle’. The sheer flow state that’s achieved on Dysphoria nothing short of completely bewitching. It’s a hypnotic, breath-taking tune. Anchored on a constant repetition of a vocal line, the surrounding ambient noises almost asphyxiate you into complete and willing surrender.
A true delight for any techno fan, Spectrum of Life is simply packed with excitement from back to front. Never for a moment are you left disappointed, bored, or unintrigued by what’s unfolding before you.
