S J Denney’s consistently evocative and intimate folksy music never fails to be somewhat appealing to any acoustic fan. ‘A Silent Scream’ is Denney at his more imaginative from a production lens, broadly taking a more expressive vocal performance with more pointed and poignant vocals. The arrangement is more fleshed out, bringing together a lot more thorough instrumental chops across the track to give it a more live, full band feeling altogether. Most folk music fans will be pleased going through Denney’s catalogue, but ‘A Silent Scream’ feels like a new opportunity, an alternative approach, and a more matured version of the artist. His distinctive vocal performance gives him a strong niche that’s got that slightly whiny twang to it that really gives more weightage to his story.
