Opening with a riff that immediately has your head banging from the onset, Shaun Lewis unleashes a fury of rivetingly new and raucous alternative pop rock music on his landmark SL EP 2. The English singer songwriter is emulating the age old sound of the 90s, reviving it with a freshness to make britpop cool again. On the eve of an oasis reunion, perhaps this is just the kind of sound that’s going to cut through and dominate again. It’s clear from Lewis’ own style and aesthetic that he’s distinctly influenced by the swagger and bravado of Liam Gallagher, but delivering his own spin and grittiness in his vocal performance. “I wish I knew you better” is sung so damn powerfully and emphatically on “Holding Up The World” to really make for a rampantly powerful britpop anthem.
