Gritty, emotional guitar work, and crashing drums all combine to make Shockpowder really deliver that authentic and undying flair and energy that the 90s rock scene so uniquely captured. ‘The Ghost in Spring’ doesn’t really feel like a record from today, I almost had to double check the date to see what I was listening to. But, as a devout and diehard fan of the grunge era, it had me feeling nostalgic, warm, and altogether energised like never before. Although it seamlessly blends elements of metal and shoegaze, it still retains that distinctive 90s edge to it. I absolutely adore the existential thematics of it all, that hallowing and beckoning emotion that has you sinking deeper and deeper into your own psyche as you try to uncover yourself.
