Beginning with an enigmatically enchanting string driven introduction, Sisyphes’ latest single is a trip into a fantasy dream world that captivates every bit of your energy. The alternative pop French project based in the United Kingdom, are reigniting a flame in dream pop music with an ensemble of eccentric synths and other subtleties. The song, which literally translates to ‘At The Crossover’, is infused with some semblance of indie tones amongst a little bit of jazz and traditional modern electro-pop.
While the literal transaction doesn’t quite capture the meaning behind the piece, it does give you a bit of context into the genre bending and eclectic nature that Sisyphes is able to bring to such vivid and invigorating life. ‘It’s about a 30-year old man looking back at his life, walking melancholically along a landscape including Margate sunset, still oceans and frozen mountains, enjoying a moment of beautiful stillness while procrastinating the inevitable questions that will determine his path in life‘.
Written, performed, mixed, and mastered by Geoffrey Papin, the palette that this song uses is as diverse and colourful as the final painted canvas that Papin has so exquisitely captured. It’s far from normal, but it’s universally pleasing.
