Like many an independent artist in the past year, ‘Soheill’ conceived Attic during the darkness that befell him amidst the pandemic. The song reflects the inner turmoil that isolation causes all of us to sink inwards. It does manage to also become a clarion call for hope, finding solace in the darkness, the illuminating light that will allow you to find a path out of this pit that seems endless. I find attic to be a song that you can relate to, but not fall deeper into anguish with. That vulnerability that Soheill allows himself to feel is a beacon for the listener. Towards the songs end, when he cries out with all his heart ‘I’m so sick of waiting’, you feel that same yearning energy to escape.
All in all, a piece of alternative rock that hits all the right numbers from a sonic standpoint. The guitar is moving, the progression grandiose, the ending magnificent. A song for a time we’d do best to forget.
