Hailing from Dubai, Lebanese multi-faceted artist Son Savage has returned with a large album rife with a blend of rock, pop, and electronic sounds. Lead by the riveting lead single, ‘The River’, Folie A Deux is a debut record that’s a confident assertion of pop perfection from an artist who’s just now starting to make waves. Starting with the funky disco beat anthem that is ‘Walkin’ away’, Savage immediately starts to reel you in with his offbeat EDM energy. On ‘Sticky Situation’ he turns the tempo down a notch, making a more mellow piece of easy listening indie pop. At the heart of the album, a myriad of situations around love form front and centre. Nothing too outlandish, just the everyday put to song in an infectiously fun manner.
The album is defiantly eclectic, a slew of different sounds forming the core of the record. Son Savage lists his influences as ‘Soul, Funk, Blues, Motown, Gospel, Rockabilly and Rock & Roll with ‘being Arab’’. Exploring the idea of ‘Love’ as a form of madness, the album takes the listner through the rollercoaster of a relationship, the numerous highs and lows that we deal with.
Savage started his music career on the event of a life changing experience. The Beirut port blast, which decimated the Lebanese capital, setting it back years on end prompted him to question his own mortality. The catalyst urged Savage on to relinquish his office job, opting to shift full time music. He never saw it as a gamble, though. Assured and confident in his abilities and sound, Folie A Deux highlights the capabilities of the artist as an electro-pop gem from minute one.
A power pop record to cherish, with a slew of sounds that are eclectic, energetic, and exciting.
