Sweet Jayne – Don’t Ya

With a strong background as a session musician and fiddle player for renowned brands, Sweet Jayne’s multi-instrumental talents lends her a unique and distinctive blend of blues, folk, and rock with a bit of pop sprinkled in for good measure. Starting with an intricate string introduction between the guitar and fiddle, Jayne starts to sing with a wholly unique style that’s eerily reminiscent of a Joni Mitchell or Dylan. It’s a bit psychedelic even, crafting an ethereal and spacy soundscape that starkly contrasts her own folky vocal performance. The way she subtly repeats ‘pillow talk’ leaves you slightly reassured and unsettled at the same time. Her whiny and slightly coarse vocals are an absolute highlight, more so for a Dylan fan like myself.

The Dublin based artist recorded the entire song from her home studio in Dublin. You’re bound to find moments to appreciate littered throughout this piece. Be it the presence of the fiddle, Jayne’s unique and memorable vocals, or an arrangement that transcends multiple genres, there’s a bit to enjoy and appreciate for numerous types of music fans. If I had to make a special note, any fan of folk from the 70s, Jayne’s voice is bound to put a smile on your face.
