The Fantines are as British as it comes. The Essex based indie rock outfit have that grit, that realness, and that sparkling energy that indie rock groups from the UK in the 90s and mid 2000s used to have in droves. There’s a fun to their latest song ‘City Boy’, an almost tongue in cheek mockery of a young wannabe yuppy from the suburbs. The tragicomic piece can have you laughing and thinking to yourself in equal measure at the darkness of its subject matter but its humour as well. A brilliant performance in every which way, one of my favourite rock tunes in recent months.
