Reinventing an iconic track from Lesley Gore, The Heroic Enthusiasts imbue the age old iconic pop piece with new life in a duo of remixes. The song’s surge in popularity, also aided by a viral marketing campaign with Calvin Klein & Jeremy Allen White and a re-release of Gore’s work has shown just how lasting the song’s core melody has remained. Redefined and reinterpreted in two popping and high energy mixes, The Heroic Enthusiasts recreate “You Don’t Own Me” in an Enthusiastic Mix and Heroic Mix.
The former is groovy and wavy beyond recognition, a kind of supple and flowing composition that lets the weight around you just slowly dissipate away. The Heroix Mix lets Gore take more centre stage, allowing her powerful vocals to commandeer the song. It’s more rousing, stirring, and as the name would imply, quite innately heroic in its intent and prowess. There’s a presence to this version, a verve and stature that has you feeling uplifted as it progresses.
A rousingly riveting reimagination.
