Living through a global pandemic can be enough reason to feel like your spirit is being drained away every day. Despite the suffocation created by COVID across the world, Rod Moore found an avenue to creatively channel the frustration that we have all become too familiar with. It is a declaration of intent: no matter what life throws our way, we’re only going to come out stronger, and therefore, the name ‘You Won’t Bring Me Down’ itself is a motto that we have learned to live by after facing the troubles of the past few years. This is the third single from the 80s-influenced ‘Lockdown EP’ and highlights multi-instrumentalist Rod Moore’s ability to create a powerful, anthemic track that leaves us feeling inspired.
Cinematic is the best way to describe the song. The bass at the start, the guitar riffs within the track, drum loops and synth sounds: every instrument adds a special element to the song that creates a sense of urgency to seize the moment and get something done. If there was ever a soundtrack to walk out to after spending time in quarantine, this would be it because it makes you want to jump higher over the hurdles that life has placed on your path. In Rod’s words: “I am a big John Carpenter fan, and the music he writes for his movies is always very unique, quirky and memorable. This song definitely carried some of that inspiration, which shows strongest in the opening, single tone riff.“
With smooth vocals and uplifting melodies, ‘You Won’t Bring Me Down’ is an anthem that as a generation we can all relate to in this moment. Its relevance makes it interesting, but its creativity makes it exciting. The Rod Moore Band has created a track that feels epic and right now, we could all use a big dose of musical motivation.
