The Sully Band – Let’s Straighten It Out!

The debut album from San Diego’s “Best Live Band,” The Sully Band, Let’s Straighten It Out is a simply delectable collection of infectious rock tracks that are brimming with soul and energy from back to front. You can tell from just a cursory listen that each track on this record is meant for an audience, it’s meant to be experienced with each band member playing their heart out as the harmonisation on vocals starts to reel in the crowds watching. It’s defiantly old school, but not in a dated way. It’s got that timeless energy, the soulful cheer of a retro-soul record that’s got a few classic rock, blues, and funk elements to have you jumping from back to front singing along. You may have heard these tunes before, but not in the style and swagger that The Sully Band bring them to life with.

The opening piece is powerful, a more full stack immersive rollercoaster piece that’s loud and stadium like in its energy. But it immediately transitions to a more relaxed, laid back, and happy-go-lucky vibe on the loveable and affable ‘Hallelujah, I Love Her So’. Throwing together a collection of more renowned tunes like “nothing and Nothing” alongside lesser recognised ones like the Ray Charles ‘Hallelujah, I Love Her So’ keeps the album refreshing while being memorable.

Robert “Sully” Sullivan and his bluesy, nine-piece beast of a band take you on a thoroughly delightful and fun filled journey through the ups, downs, and all-arounds of love by way of 10 classic ‘60s and ‘70s soul, blues, and R&B tunes. It’s a remarkable collection of covered performances that retain the energy of when they come out, but spun again for a new audience.
