The debut single from the emergent Blackburn based rock n roll outfit ‘Them Velvet Tongues’ is a statement of a track. The powerhouse record is a soaring piece of classic rock music, loaded with infectious riffs, soaring melodies, a groovy sense of assuredness, and a guitar solo that has you transfixed. That natural swagger can’t be taught or learnt, it’s something innate. And, I’m glad as hell that Them Velvet Tongues have it in droves upon droves. Far from anything experimentally out there, it’s just a good old piece of exciting rock and roll that has a bit of hip-hop strewn in to add a little bit more funk.
With pointed storytelling, the song’s lyrics are a commentary on the way charismatic leaders can use politics
and religion like a drug to control the masses, and serve as a warning to reject false prophets. Inspired my megalomaniacs and cult leaders alike, it’s a rejection of all of the above with an almost sardonically aggressive tune.
The ‘Don’t reap what you sow’ section is just bound to have you head banging.
