Think Sanity are an electric hard rock outfit. The Anniston based group make consistently addictive tunes, loaded with anthemic choruses and scintillating arrangements all the while discussing the highs and lows of mental health. ‘Think Safely’ is in effect a bit of a concept album for its topicality, but its really just a delight of a rock record in a time where there’s staleness in the genre or an emphasized utilisation of modern beats and synths in. Think Sanity don’t really incorporate that aspect into their music. They’re gritty, realist, and modern in their style of rock music.
Andie Johnson’s vocal performance gives this group something so different, unique, and emotional. Her ability to convey real problems with so much excitement and passion is truly refreshing to come across. The entire album is kind of a rollercoaster both emotionally and impactfully. It’s about taking and accepting the fact that you’re damaged, that you have problems, and that your imperfections do exist. But at the same time, it turns it into something empowering, helping you find the strength and energy to power through in the face of all the adversity that keeps holding you back mentally.
That cathartic energy you feel when you hear a song like ‘Trainwreck’ or the absbolute euphoric wall to wall sing along action you feel like bursting out loud when you hear ‘Liar’s Dice’ has you absolutely hooked to this record. More powerful, heavier tracks like ‘Con Man’ show you that Think Safely have so much more up their sleeve than just punchy emo rock tunes. They can be thundering, they can be emotional, and they can be somewhere in between. All in all, ‘Think Safely’ is a gem of a rock record that any fan of the 00s sound would be delighted to hear. The instrumentation, the arrangements, and the vocals are all in perfect synergy. This group just works.
A special one, undoubtedly.
