I’ve always found emo rock to be my go to genre when I’m feeling lost and anxious. Perhaps it’s the innate expressive angst that it carries, or perhaps its because it was the music I grew up on, it doesn’t really matter. It never fails to lift my spirits by tearing it all down and bringing it back up. ‘Everyone’s Miserable’ is a welcome interpolation of the genre, adding a bit of rap alongside the otherwise fairly traditional and by the numbers dartboard of emo rock. This Modern, attempts to navigate moving forward while also recognizing that people are still being affected by forces outside of their control.
It’s an anthemic piece, a wall to wall song that has you screaming and singing along while cheering for tomorrow while still recognising that, you know what, we can be miserable, but we can be miserable together.
