The song’s title harkens back to 2020, the pandemic and the uncertainty, anxiety, and isolation it brought onto all of us. But, in typical fashion for the genre, ‘a year ago’ is a deeply comforting song. It’s got an air to it that exudes so much positivity and reassurance that you’re going to get through it all. The refrain, ‘I’m okay, I’m alright, I’m leaving’ might be one of the most iconic moments in indie pop all year.
Each member hits the right notes, making their inclusion in the track well worth the mention and effort.
