Coming through with a vocal performance that feels restrained but also aching at the same time, Uncle Strut’s distinctive brand of indie rock music is simply exemplary in an age of copy cats and repetition. Corduroy Queen is just another addition to their subtle and offbeat melodic compositions that’s loaded with flair, atmosphere, and depth unlike any other group out together. The guitar work is sublimely stylish, slick and smooth. The vocals are infectious, but in a confusingly endearing fashion. The percussive element builds with a nuanced sense of tension, slightly unsettling but somehow wholly intriguing.
‘Corduroy Queen’ had me going on a complete deep dive discovery of the entirety of Uncle Strut, and by god was I not disappointed. They’re an incredibly innovative and continually poignant group that’s pushing and testing what it means to be an indie rock artist today.
