As the name might suggest, V-Train’s third release, ‘Lo-Fi Sensation’ takes a collection of originals and cover tracks spun together through the wonderful interplay of jazz, hip-hop, and lo-fi. Right from the onset, the immensely blissful and transporting pitter patter of ‘Gone Fishing’ immediately placates your anxieties and worries. But the moods don’t maintain the same perennial sense of calmness and simple energy that Gone Fishing has. on ‘Passing Storm’, the energy gets dialled up a few notches further. The more upbeat and slightly higher octane lo-fi piece floods you with the best kind of energy, you can almost feel it running down your limbs and body to entirely keep you in a joyful state.
It’s hard not to enjoy this record. What, with lo-fi being all the rage for the past few years, V-Train’s latest collection takes this much loved genre and just adds new dimensions, additional depth, and a sense of emotional resonance to his work that allows it to stand apart. On the keys of a tune like ‘Late Night Session’, you can really start to hear how he’s interplaying works of Jazz and an old school hip-hop beat alongside.
