Vanderzee’s “The Coming Day” delivers a powerful post-punk sound with its catchy guitar riffs and hooky vocals. The track showcases the band’s ability to blend influences from The Killers and The Cure to create a unique sound that is both energetic and introspective. With hook lines like “Every night I lie awake and think about the coming day,” capture a sense of anticipation, hope, and urgency that is felt throughout the song.
There’s something so eclectic about this sound, a strange combination of so many different genres and artistic influences that give Vanderzee a sound that’s confidently and firmly in his own lane. The final minute of “The Coming Day” is one of my favourite moments of indie rock this year so far, as it builds and transitions into a crescendo that’s just so pure and cathartic to hear.
A wistful and hopeful piece to get you through tough times.
