There’s a method to the madness. With an outlandish name, campy cover art, and an absurdist video, ‘WHAM BAM!’ make themselves as outlandish as possible to grab your attention. And, by my account at least, that attention is more than well warranted. The groovy grunge duo are unlike anything you’ve ever come across. Featuring classic Robin Hood cartoons to visualise the song’s lyrical theme, they combine elements of classic rock and roll with modern pop infusions to spring to life an unprecedented style of music.
Using a Jekyll & Hyde analogy, the song proceeds to dissect how we present ourselves to the world around us. Constantly, we wear masks and facades to conceal our personal truth, choosing instead to deceive those around us into thinking we’re someone else. That burning need, that innate social desire to fit in forms the bedrock of “OUTLAW LOVE” — a name that takes its inspiration from referring to our fake selves as outlaws or bandits.
Their unique sound, that combines elements of the Foo Fighters and Jimmy Eats World with modern electro-pop artists is a bucket of fresh energy. Absurd but awesome, preposterous but powerful, insane but incredible.
