Wrene’s dark, brooding, and all around transformative piece of experimental electronic music on ‘Transmuting Darkness’ is nothing short of bewitching. The Toronto based artist has composed a sonic journey that simultaneously leaves you entirely distraught and haunted while also strangely keeping a helping hand down on you that manages to keep you placated and soothed through it all. It is definitively unsettling, constantly creeping closer and closer with more dark and dingy elements coming down onto you with every passing moment. But, there’s clearly some sort of method to the madness, a meandering industrial sonic journey that’s out of a horror film but also contains within something so innately peaceful and transformative.
Any fan of leftfield and experimental projects is bound to find this record something to marvel at. It’s wonderfully weird, creepily creative, and symphonically soothing.
