Not really restricted to a single style or sound, Yunglynx’s immensely diverse debut EP ‘it’s ok to think about it, just don’t let it consume you‘ is the sign of an artist who’s breaking boundaries and innovating sonically while being incredibly real and vulnerable throughout. The project is deeply introspective, seeing Yunglynx open about mental health, loneliness, and his struggles. That distinctive modern emo pop/rap soundscape is the predominant style around which his innovations accentuate or add additional layers around it.
All in all, the record is far from a lengthy experience, choosing instead to deliver these rather byte sized pieces of songs that each unravel a certain experience or struggle that Yunglyx is describing. Songs like ‘dnt want 2 talk’ fall right in line with that emo rap style that we’ve come to love in the mainstream. The melody is constantly addictive, filled with hook lines and relatable lyrics to sing along to. My immediate favourites come at the end on ‘Sunday’ and the record’s first real track on ‘the same’.
End to end, it’s a definitive generation Z album, sonically and thematically. For an artist to have so many different sonic styles within a single record, constantly showcasing new elements and ideas while being so readily open and vulnerable is beyond commendable. A true showcase of an artist whose ceiling is far far above what this one project can show.
