It’s always a pleasure to come across punk rock that doesn’t spare any punches. The kind that’s raw, absolutely unfiltered, and utterly honest about a deep seated disdain and angst towards things around you is what drives the genre. The Fades have that energy, that abrasive anger and freneticism that gives their music a real kick to it. But they’re not completely devoid of positivity or introspection either. On ‘People in General’, the group show both sides of the coin. Opening with a loud and aggressive intro that highlights their annoyance with humankind and everyone around, the song slowly shifts to a more reflective and nuanced outro that sees a more calm approach to the topic.
But as a first single to an upcoming punk album goes, you’d be hard pressed to find something as excitingly raucous and rambunctious as this. It’s pure play post punk, not at all like the more poppy and teenage angst driven tunes that are mainstream, but more grounded and real to the every man. An absolute belter of a tune.
