I’m a sucker for quaint singer-songwriter music with a harmonica involved in the arrangement. Ben Arsenault’s simple yet melodic piece on ‘Hold On To You’ is the kind of evergreen love song that’s impossible not to enjoy on a gloomy day. You can hear the sincerity behind his expression, the adoration he has for his significant other, and that purity in the grounded nature of the love being discussed. Although originally penned quite literally about the wheel of his Nissan Pathfinder, it’s clear that the emotional strength of the song extends to the value we place on the relationships that keep us afloat when times get tough and the roads get rocky.
Laid back and languid yet ever so eloquent, Ben Arsenault finds moments of magic through simplicity and melody. Just effortlessly enjoyable from back to front. You’d be a real grinch to not find yourselves just slightly more cheery after hearing this.
