‘Standing with Trees’ is a luscious albeit minimal piece of honest and grounded folk music. Virginia based singer-songwriter Andy Vought let’s his simplistic acoustic melodies and emotive vocal performance take you on a musical journey that has you feeling like you’re on a relaxing vacation on a road to nowhere. It feels escapist, loaded with warmth and a certain sheen that somehow transports you to a magical and dreamy paradise that you yearn to find yourself completely imbibed within. You feel in touch with nature, amongst the greenery around you, one with the luscious landscapes that are painted so vividly through his musical soundscapes.
The acoustic guitar was recorded at Vought’s mom’s cottage while the rest of the music was recorded at his studio apartment in Norfolk, Virginia. Although the songs themselves were conceived before the pandemic, there’s a timeliness to them in that it has you embracing the ides of isolation and the sheer tranquillity it comes with.
