An almost spoken word delivery backed by a minimal piano backed arrangement with a touch of operatic string work intercut between, Herald K’s narrative driven folk expedition on “Echo’s Song” is artful and poignant as ever. The storybook like delivery and fantasy like arrangement makes for such a mythological sense, almost like you’re within some sort of fairy-tale itself. Drawn from the ancient story of Echo and Narcissus, but with particular emphasis on Echo’s experience, perhaps that equivalence isn’t far-fetched or misplaced whatsoever then.
As the song progresses, the melodic elements start to take firmer root with the wonderful harmonies of the duet between Lina Louise and Herald K taking sharper and sharper place with each passing note. For anyone who finds joy in songs that have heart and story at their core, that narrate tales that are universal but also fantastical, “Echo’s Song” is poignance at its purest and most evocative. A truly mesmerising piece of folk storytelling.
