Nadia Moon’s first official release is grand. With a full band backing her, the arrangement makes for a luxurious and opulent listen. The singer previously found her calling in a more stripped back setting, using primarily acoustic dominant arrangements. On ‘You Remind Me’, she starts with a similar setting. But, as the song progresses, more and more instruments start to join in the fun. It’s got an almost orchestral feeling to it, growing with purpose and meticulously detailed planning. Nadia’s voice remains the focal point, the anchor, the wheel, that guides everything forward. Her swooning vocal humming, especially in the chorus, adds a level of depth and serenity to a sonic overload. Bits of the sax, drums, electric guitar, and more combine to craft a piece of blues that’s simply irresistibly infectious.
Spending over a year and a half writing and composing material, ‘You Remind Me’ is the first of many releases from this burgeoning blues musician. It stays true to its roots, but also provides a freshness, a modern spin on an otherwise aged and traditional genre. I for one can’t wait to hear more.
