“POPPIN” is an instant jolt of energy, a crack and sizzle that’s never for a moment in its runtime letting you slow down. Proklaim delivers his verses over a scintillating amapiano beat that’s unrelenting and bouncy, perfect to get your spirits supercharged. He’s able to oscillate between the quick-fire and lyrical verses that jump and run to catch the pattern of the beat to the more flavourful and patterned flow on the chorus. It’s a timely release, coinciding with a much larger wave of popularity within the amapiano genre. But what Proklaim’s doing is markedly different. I haven’t found many hip-hop artists experiment with the beats from amapiano to the level that he’s doing on “POPPIN”. It’s intense, it’s energising, and it’s a ride of high octane fun and bounce that’s invigorating throughout.
