Mesmerizingly arranged and so intricately layered, The Cookie Jar Complot’s return on ‘Cookies’ is a math rock lover’s dream. The instrumental rock ensemble are at their dexterous best on this single, perfectly and exquisitely weaving together strings of multiple guitars in a way that’s so effortlessly melodic. There’s an emotional core to the record that brings out a certain despondent melancholy at the start before returning to a more hopeful and joyous resonance towards the end. The record’s final section, it’s culminating minute, has a larger than life seismic finish that brings out so many different instrumental moments with the riffs ascending into something heavenly and trumpets crooning down triumph.
By the end of it all, you’re left wholly amazed and desperate for more. It’s a treat for any instrumental fans ears, having just the right edge between clean melodies and a slightly rough grit as well.
